PATTAYA, THAILAND – A violent street brawl just steps from the city police station raised fresh questions about safety in the busy tourist hub.
Fight erupts beside Pattaya police station
In a narrow alley off Pattaya Beach Soi 9, directly beside the Pattaya City Police Station, a group clash broke out on Tuesday evening at about 6:30 p.m.. The lane is usually lined with street vendors operating their stalls.
Mobile phone videos recorded by tourists and locals showed several Thai men and women, estimated to be in their 30s and 40s, attacking one another. The confrontation split into two separate fights: two men jointly assaulted a third man while, at the same time, two women were seen trading blows.
Officer in vicinity, fighters continue regardless
According to reports, the footage appeared to show a uniformed police officer in close proximity to the brawl. Despite this, those involved initially ignored attempts to intervene and continued punching and grappling until bystanders stepped in and separated the groups.
When reporters arrived at the scene shortly after, all participants had already left. No one had filed an official complaint, and the exact trigger for the altercation remained unclear.
Witness: street vendor allegedly targeted
A 35‑year‑old local resident who spoke to media under the pseudonym “Boy”, and who filmed the incident, described what he had seen. He said the shirtless man in the video was a street vendor working in the alley with a grilled‑chicken cart.
“A rival group came to settle a dispute; it was actually supposed to be one on one,”
said Boy, witness.
He stated that the situation escalated quickly and that the planned one‑on‑one fight turned into an attack by several people on the vendor.
“Even when the police tried to intervene, they just kept on fighting,”
said Boy, witness.
He added that the situation calmed only after several residents and passersby stepped between the fighters.
Speculation over possible relationship dispute
On site, there was speculation that the conflict might have had a private background. Several people speaking on camera suggested a possible “new woman versus ex‑wife” dispute, as both men and women took an active part in the confrontation, but these assumptions were not confirmed.
The authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident, and no arrests were known at the time of publication. A video of the brawl spread rapidly on social networks and fuelled debate over public safety in Pattaya’s heavily frequented tourist zones.

The fight occurred in an area frequented daily by large numbers of holidaymakers and residents. Critics viewed the close proximity to the police station and the apparent disregard for officers as particularly troubling.
