Brawl on Phuket’s Bangla Road After Dispute

Thai and foreign women clashed after alleged misunderstanding over video call

PHUKET, THAILAND – A street fight between Thai and foreign women on Bangla Road reportedly erupted after a misunderstanding over a video call.

Images of escalating street brawl

Photos posted by the Facebook page Phuket Times showed several women grappling with one another on the crowded nightlife strip. According to the post, two foreign women initially attacked a Thai woman who was walking alone, prompting other nearby Thai women to rush in and support her.

“The Thai women involved did not know each other but intervened in the fight,”

said the description of the incident.

Thai woman describes herself as the victim

Later, one of the Thai women commented on the post, identifying herself as the victim and rejecting speculation that she was a sex worker. She stated that she had been on her way home from a celebration with her employer while talking to her boyfriend via video call. The two foreign women allegedly believed she was secretly filming them, confronted her and demanded that she delete supposed recordings.

Smartphone smashed, argument turns violent

Despite her explanations, the foreigners allegedly refused to listen and instead knocked the smartphone from her hand.

“The phone fell to the ground and the screen broke,”

said the woman, adding that the verbal dispute quickly turned into a physical confrontation. Other social media users speculated that the foreign women might have been working illegally and were therefore particularly sensitive to being filmed.

Split opinions online and absent police response

Reactions on social media were divided, with some users praising the solidarity shown by the Thai women and others criticizing both sides for allowing the situation to spiral. Observers noted that no police or security officers intervened at any point during the altercation, and none of the parties had filed a complaint so far. Authorities in Thailand were expected to review the case after the fact, but it remained unclear whether a formal investigation would follow.

Rare violence on Phuket’s main party strip

Bangla Road, the epicentre of Phuket’s nightlife, was known for its charged atmosphere, but such full-scale fights were described as rare. The incident illustrated how quickly a misunderstanding could turn into violence in an overstimulated environment filled with tourists and night-time activity. For those involved, one thing was certain: the evening on Bangla Road ended very differently from what they had planned.
