NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A 75-year-old British woman was killed in a road accident in Nonthaburi, shattering her family’s Christmas plans.
Fatal collision near Sai Noi hospital
Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police received a call reporting a deadly crash on the Bang Kruai–Sai Noi Road near Sai Noi Hospital. Officers arrived to find the British woman, identified as Suzanne G., lying lifeless on the roadway with severe head and neck injuries. The 40-year-old driver, an online vendor named Jarunan, waited in shock at the scene.
Driver says victim stopped suddenly
According to police, Jarunan told officers she had been making a U-turn when she saw the senior walking toward the traffic island.
“She stopped suddenly. I had no time left to brake,”
said Jarunan, online vendor. She expressed remorse over the outcome, stating,
“I feel terrible that she had to lose her life. If she had only been injured, she could have recovered.”

Negligent homicide charge filed
Police took the driver to Sai Noi police station for questioning and later filed an official charge of negligent homicide in traffic. The allegation of negligence carried the prospect of a substantial penalty as the criminal proceedings began. Investigators stated that the evidence in the case would be examined in detail.
Well-liked British retirees in the community
The victim and her husband David had moved to Thailand eight years earlier and had lived in Sai Noi for the past five years. Neighbours knew them as an active retired couple who cycled every morning, greeted locals and supported the Nonthaburi football team.
“A few days ago they told me they had booked a place in Pattaya to celebrate Christmas together,”

Husband’s grief without resentment
David later arrived at the police station visibly distraught, keeping his head bowed as he gave his statement. Despite his overwhelming grief, he expressed no anger toward Jarunan. Instead, he told officers,
“No matter how much I would blame her, my wife would not come back.”

Funeral plans and community support
Deputy mayor Somsak Duangsano offered to arrange a Thai Buddhist funeral ceremony for Suzanne. The local community pledged to support the family during this difficult time. While relatives mourned their wife and mother, the legal process against Jarunan moved forward, marking a tragic end to the couple’s retirement dream in Thailand.
