NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A speeding driver who ran a red light at the Sai Noi intersection was killed after his car overturned and crushed him late at night.
High-speed red-light violation ends in deadly crash
Shortly before 10:40 p.m. on 30 November, a Toyota Vios driven by 46-year-old Mr Sayan entered the busy Sai Noi intersection at high speed. An eyewitness reported that the sedan failed to stop for the signal.
“The car completely ignored the red light,”
said an eyewitness. The impact triggered a serious collision that immediately involved multiple vehicles.
Four vehicles caught in chain collision
Four vehicles were caught up in the crash, with metal debris thrown across the road and shattered glass scattering over the intersection. Witnesses described a scene of shock and confusion as traffic came to a standstill.
The force of the impact caused the Toyota to roll several times before coming to rest on its side. Other motorists were left stranded while emergency services fought to secure the crash site.
Driver crushed by his own vehicle
The situation turned fatal when Mr Sayan was pinned under his own Toyota Vios after it overturned. Rescue workers who arrived at the scene were unable to save him.
“He had no chance,”
said an emergency doctor at the site. The victim’s body was later sent for forensic medical examination, while relatives were left in mourning.
Truck drivers describe terrifying moment
The 46-year-old Mr Sarawut, who was driving an Isuzu truck, recounted how the crash unfolded from his perspective.
“I set off on green, like everyone else,”
said Mr Sarawut. Moments later, the Toyota shot into the intersection, leaving him no time to stop before the violent impact sent the sedan spinning through the air.
Second pickup and injuries reported
A second Isuzu pickup, driven by 58-year-old Mr Samran, was also dragged into the collision. He and his wife sustained injuries as their vehicle was struck in the chain reaction.
Emergency teams treated the injured at the scene and ensured they received further medical care. Authorities did not report additional fatalities from the pile-up.
Police rely on dashcam footage
Investigators moved quickly to secure all available evidence, including dashcam recordings from vehicles involved. According to police, the video material was decisive for reconstructing the sequence of events.
“The footage clearly shows that the Toyota Vios entered the intersection on red,”
said a police spokesman. Officers concluded that the speeding driver had not only caused his own death but also placed others in mortal danger.
Intersection closed and vehicles written off
All four vehicles involved were left as total write-offs after the crash. The Sai Noi intersection remained fully closed for several hours while police and rescue workers cleared the wreckage.
Traffic in the area had to be diverted until the scene was made safe. Only then was the intersection reopened to normal flow.
Police issue warning over road safety
The police framed the crash as a stark reminder of the risks of ignoring traffic signals and speeding. Officers stressed how quickly a lapse in judgment can turn deadly.
“A single second of inattention can cost a life,”
warned the police. They described the crash as another example of how reckless driving can turn an ordinary intersection into a scene of tragedy.
