PHUKET, THAILAND – A 37-year-old British tourist drowned at Phuket’s Freedom Beach despite rapid intervention by lifeguards.
Holiday outing ended in fatal incident
The victim, Jason Mark Lambert, entered the water at the popular Freedom Beach late yesterday morning together with his wife. Within a short time he appeared to get into difficulty while swimming.
Lifeguards noticed that Lambert was struggling and pulled him from the water unconscious. They immediately began resuscitation attempts and continued efforts to revive him until emergency medical services arrived, but his life could not be saved.
Family trip to Phuket cut short
Lambert had been on holiday in Phuket with his family since 19 November. They were staying at the Nipa Hotel in Patong and were reportedly enjoying a typical Thailand beach vacation.
The excursion to Freedom Beach was intended as another highlight of the trip but ended in tragedy. His death was officially confirmed at around 12:30 p.m.
Medical examination and family response
The body was transported to Patong Hospital for further examination. Dr. Punthanika Chaithianthong carried out an autopsy in line with standard medical and legal procedures.
Lambert’s family raised no doubts about the circumstances of his death and did not request any additional investigation. After the autopsy was completed, the body was released for burial.
Earlier drowning off Koh Phi Phi
A similar incident had occurred recently involving a 69-year-old Canadian woman at a dive site near Koh Phi Phi. She had travelled there with a tour group from Phuket and lost consciousness while diving in the Pha Daeng area.
Although she was brought ashore immediately and taken to hospital, attempts to save her were also unsuccessful. Police renewed their warning that tour operators must strictly follow safety protocols.
Police rule out foul play
The Patong police stated that no third-party involvement was suspected in Lambert’s death. According to the authorities, all indications pointed to a tragic accident, which was being recorded as a routine death case.
For the British man’s family, the Phuket holiday ended in an unimaginable loss that would remain with them. The recent incidents have raised further questions locally about how safe Thailand’s beaches and coastal waters are for visitors.
