PATONG, THAILAND – Police in Phuket’s main nightlife district carried out a targeted drug raid that led to the arrest of a suspected dealer with 28 methamphetamine pills.
Coordinated Night Raid in Tourist District
Police launched the operation on Thursday at 10 p.m., led by Anurak Poolsak, the permanent secretary of the security division of the Kathu district. Supported by volunteers from the district’s defence force, officers swept the busy Bangla Road entertainment strip with the stated aim of eradicating drug dealing in the heart of Patong. Their suspicions took them directly to the Bangla Night Plaza market, where they said they found what they were looking for.
Arrest Outside Tattoo Studio
Inside the market area, investigators apprehended a suspected dealer directly in front of a tattoo shop. During a search they recovered 28 pills of the Category 1 drug methamphetamine, known locally as Ya Bah. The evidence was described as overwhelming, and the man was immediately arrested, although his name was not officially released.
Serious Drug Charges Filed
Prosecutors brought the charge of possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell. According to the allegations, the suspect was accused of selling the drugs in a manner that could have led to public distribution and doing so without any authorisation. Authorities characterised the case as clear-cut drug trafficking in a major tourist hotspot where such substances can cause particular harm.
Evidence Handed to Patong Police
The detainee and the seized 28 methamphetamine pills were transferred to Patong Police Station for further processing and legal procedures. Officials from Kathu district confirmed that all evidence had been secured and that a court case would follow, signalling the start of a lengthy legal battle for the suspect.
Part of Wider Anti-Drug Campaign
Authorities stated that the raid formed part of a broader offensive against drug trafficking in Thailand’s leading tourist centres. Dealers were said to be repeatedly attempting to exploit nightlife areas for criminal activity. Thai authorities reiterated their uncompromising stance, stressing that anyone dealing drugs in Thailand would face the full force of the law and describing the operation as an important blow against the local drug scene.
