PATTAYA, THAILAND – The Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2025 opened on Pattaya Beach with a spectacular launch and a strong focus on the Queen Mother.
Royal theme shapes opening ceremony
This year’s festival carried the motto “The Light of Eternal Loyalty” and was formally opened by Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong, Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet and Wittaya Khunpluem, president of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization. Officials and participants wore traditional black Thai silk garments as a deliberately restrained, respectful sign of loyalty to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Hundreds of thousands crowd Pattaya Beach
From early afternoon, hundreds of thousands of Thai and international visitors lined the length of Pattaya Beach, turning the shoreline into a dense band of spectators awaiting the start of one of Southeast Asia’s best-known annual events. The festival was scheduled over two evenings, with five nations – Malaysia, Germany, Finland, the Philippines and the United Kingdom – preparing their fireworks displays above the Gulf of Thailand.
Joint Thailand–Malaysia show as first-night highlight
The highlight of the opening night was a joint pyrotechnic performance by Thailand and Malaysia titled “Devoted Loyalty: Honoring the Mother of the Nation.” The show was explicitly dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and formed part of a layered program in which national contributions and royal symbolism were closely intertwined.
Classical Khon and orchestral music replace pop
For added cultural depth, the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute under the Thai Ministry of Culture presented a special Khon mask dance production titled “Yuddhakarn: Rama Returns to the City,” a classic episode from the epic. The Queen Mother has long been regarded as a key patron of this art form and is quoted as saying:
“If no one else watches it, then I will watch it myself.”

Instead of pop concerts, the festival this year featured orchestral performances of royal compositions and the Queen Mother’s favorite pieces, keeping the entire evening in a ceremonially calm and respectful atmosphere.
Security operation and economic expectations
Local authorities reported a comprehensive security plan, with more than 2,000 personnel – including police officers, EOD specialists, administrative staff, city workers and volunteers – deployed to ensure safety and traffic flow. Along the beach promenade, residents operated nearly 600 stalls selling food, drinks and souvenirs, and organizers expected the two-day event to generate an economic impact of at least 500 million baht for the tourist city of Pattaya.
Second night set to light up Gulf of Thailand
The Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2025 continued on 29 November, when the participating countries were scheduled to light up the sky over the Gulf of Thailand once again. Their shows were set to provide another visual highlight in Thailand’s events calendar.
