NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A 65-year-old woman who had been officially declared dead was found alive in her coffin at a temple in Bang Yai just moments before her cremation.
Routine cremation turned into shock
A routine cremation had been scheduled on Sunday at Wat Rat Prakongtham, where the family had traveled from Phitsanulok for the ceremony. When temple staff opened the coffin for final preparations, they saw the woman move.
“We were shocked when we saw signs of life.”
said a temple worker, adding that the abbot immediately intervened.
Family trusted official death declaration
The woman’s brother said he was stunned by the turn of events.
“I took care of my sister for three years,”
said the brother.
“Officials told us she had died. All the documents were issued, so we brought her in the coffin to the temple.”
