BANGKOK, THAILAND – Early on 18 October, more than 100 officers carried out a pre-dawn raid on a nightclub in central Bangkok, detaining staff and seizing quantities of cocaine, crystal meth and nitrous oxide cartridges.
Raid at a popular late-night venue
At around 05:00 local time, combined teams from the police, military and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) moved on a venue on Ratchaprarop Soi 14 in the Ratchathewi district. The premises, a converted former hotel that reportedly stayed open well past the legal closing hours — sometimes until 07:00 — was hosting more than 100 patrons when officers entered.
The operation followed an anonymous tip to the ONCB hotline 1386 and weeks of surveillance, officials said. Authorities described the action as a targeted enforcement operation against persistent drug sales and use in Bangkok’s nightlife.
Testing and arrests
Officers ordered all patrons to undergo on-site drug testing. Of 127 people checked, 22 returned positive results: 11 Thai nationals and 11 foreigners. The Thai suspects were taken to Din Daeng police station and subsequently referred to a public rehabilitation centre, while foreign nationals were reported to face charges for drug possession and potential deportation.
Two club employees were arrested at the scene. Investigators said they were being probed on suspicion of possessing category 1 and category 2 drugs with intent to sell.
Evidence seized
Inside the club, officers found two bags of crystal meth and a packet of cocaine. Further evidence was recovered from a black Suzuki Swift parked outside the venue, including additional drug paraphernalia. Several bags of ketamine and multiple nitrous oxide canisters were also seized — substances that, officials noted, have become increasingly common in Thailand’s party scene.
Authorities additionally alleged the venue illegally sold e-cigarettes and cannabis products, contributing to its reputation as a gathering point for Bangkok’s nightlife and for foreign tourists.
Main suspect identified and detained
Police identified a Nigerian man as the principal target of the operation. ONCB Secretary-General Police Colonel Suriya Singhakamol said investigators suspected he had smuggled cocaine into Thailand and sold it directly to club patrons. The man was arrested during the raid, according to officials.
The venue had reportedly been under observation for more than a year as part of a broader effort to trace suppliers and dismantle networks serving the capital’s entertainment districts.
Wider probes into networks and licences
Officers said enquiries were continuing to establish whether the club was part of a larger drug distribution network operating across Bangkok’s nightlife. The ONCB also indicated it would investigate potential licence breaches by the venue and pursue other individuals involved in supply and sale.
‘This was not a normal club operation,’ an ONCB spokesperson said. ‘Drugs were openly traded here — that will not be tolerated.’
Aftermath
The raid underscored authorities’ increasing scrutiny of late-night venues cited for drug-related activity. Investigators said further arrests and charges could follow as they examine phone records, financial links and supplier chains uncovered during the operation.
The ONCB and local police have vowed to continue enforcement actions against establishments they believe facilitate drug sales, particularly those that serve as regular meeting points for both local partygoers and foreign visitors.
