Roof break-in injures German retirees

KHAO LAK, THAILAND – A German couple were seriously injured after an intruder broke through the roof of their home and struck them with a liquor bottle in the early hours of 11 October. Police responded to a report at approximately 02:00 and found evidence of a violent entry in a residence on Soi Khao Wong, Moo 3, Khuekkhak subdistrict, Takua Pa district, Phang Nga province.

The attack

According to investigators, the attacker removed a roof tile at the rear of the house and descended through a ceiling panel in the kitchen. The intruder then allegedly struck the victims on the head with a bottle before fleeing through the kitchen window to the back of the property. Blood stains and the bottle were found on the bed and bedroom floor.

Victims and medical care

The injured are identified as Thomas, 61, and Beate, 58, both German nationals. Paramedics transported them to Khao Lak Medical Centre, where staff treated head lacerations described by police as serious but not life-threatening. Authorities say prompt medical care helped prevent more severe consequences.

Investigation and forensic work

Police Lt. Col. Jaran Srirak of Khao Lak Police Station is leading the investigation, supervised by Lt. Col. Sommot Saengsawat, deputy superintendent for investigations. Forensic teams from Phang Nga province are examining the scene, collecting DNA samples, latent fingerprints and photographing evidence. Officers are also reviewing nearby CCTV footage for leads.

Suspect and public appeal

No arrests have been made and the suspect remains at large. Investigators say the method of entry — removing a roof tile and entering through a ceiling panel — suggests planning and familiarity with the property. Police have urged residents to report any suspicious activity and have warned the public to remain vigilant.

Community reaction and next steps

Neighbours described the normally quiet area as shocked by the attack and said many are considering extra security measures. The victims are cooperating with investigators and remain in contact with authorities as forensic results are awaited. Police treat the case as a priority and say even small observations from the public could be crucial in identifying the attacker.
