PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 41-year-old woman who had been drinking heavily soiled a Bolt ride-share vehicle and then ran into the sea early on 11 October, prompting a major police and rescue response.
Incident in the taxi
According to police reports, the episode began at about 05:05 when a distressed Bolt driver arrived at Pattaya City police station. The driver said his passenger, identified only as Ms. B, had lost control of her bodily functions during the journey, urinating and defecating in the vehicle. The car was left heavily soiled and emitting a strong odor.
Husband pays, then the flight to the sea
The woman’s foreign husband arrived at the station and agreed to cover cleaning costs. Although both parties initially appeared to have reached an agreement, Ms. B suddenly panicked, broke free from those nearby, ran across the road and entered the sea. Witnesses described a dramatic scene as she waded deeper while shouting that she intended to drown herself.
Ten-minute rescue
Police officers and members of the public rushed to the water to intervene. For more than ten minutes they attempted to calm her and persuade her back to shore. Her husband pleaded with her from the beach. Rescuers eventually guided her to a shallow area, where she sat and was helped back onto land. She was crying and appeared deeply ashamed and overwhelmed.
Aftermath and outcome
After she had calmed down, Ms. B apologized to the Bolt driver, the police and those who assisted. All parties accepted her apology and no criminal charges were filed. The driver sought compensation for cleaning costs, which the husband had agreed to pay. Emergency services recorded the incident as resolved without further legal action.
