Six days after the ground collapsed, rescue efforts are finally making progress. On Monday morning, teams begin laying huge steel pipes and preparing soil infill near the Samsen Police Station.
This is the designated area for stabilisation. “We need a solid, even surface,” says one engineer at the scene.
Engineers Deploy Mini-Diggers for Safety
Specialists from Thailand’s Engineering Institute (EIT) are on site, using a mini-digger to check the ground beneath nearby buildings. Where needed, they install temporary reinforcements.
“Safety comes first,” insists an EIT spokesperson. Their goal: to guarantee the stability of every building around the sinkhole.
Countdown to Reopening: Will the Road Hold?
The schedule is tight. Asphalt is set to be poured on 8 October. By the next day, Samsen Road could be open for cars again.
But there’s a catch. Before any vehicles roll through, the EIT will run heavy-duty truck tests over the repaired stretch. “We want the public to trust this road again,” says an official.
Residents Could Return Home Within Days
There’s hope for those living closest to the disaster. If repairs stay on track, residents may move back into their homes in early October.
First, though, experts must complete a thorough structural check of every building. Only then will families be allowed back.
