Audacious Theft in Krabi
At the Khlong Thom Rescue and Emergency Association in Krabi, two teenagers aged 19 and 17 spotted a Toyota ambulance with the keys left inside—a common practice for rapid deployment. Seizing the opportunity, they took the vehicle, intended for patient transport, to visit relatives in the neighboring province of Trang, according to later statements.
Fuel Runs Out, Police Called
Their plan unraveled on Wisetkul Road when the ambulance ran out of fuel. Instead of hiding, the teens made a fateful decision: they called the police for help. Officers from Trang Police arrived with a rescue team. The teens claimed they were volunteer responders transporting a deceased person to Kantang.
Lies Quickly Exposed
Police quickly noticed inconsistencies: the youths had no ID, no money, and no phones. A call to the Krabi rescue station revealed the truth—the vehicle had been stolen. Ironically, the teens had already called the station minutes earlier seeking fuel assistance.
Arrest and Aftermath
During questioning, the teens insisted they only “borrowed” the ambulance and planned to return it the next morning. Authorities described their decision to involve the police as either foolish or audacious.
Both are now held at Khlong Thom Police Station. The 17-year-old faces juvenile legal proceedings, while the 19-year-old will be tried as an adult. The Krabi rescue station is reviewing safety procedures, acknowledging that leaving keys in the vehicle for quick deployment must now change.
